POTTSTOWN PA – Three separate art exhibits being hosted by Montgomery County Community College (MCCC) include a “monumental” sculpture, the works of 17 local artists, and a story-teller’s talents. One of the shows opens soon in Pottstown.
The exhibits represent only a portion of what the college calls its “Montco Cultural Center.”
Throughout the year MCCC also offers music concerts, dance performances, comedy skits, a fall festival, and other arts-related activities. “We have something for every taste and member of the campus and community,” its website adds.

In Pottstown, Mixed Media Art
A display of works by mixed media artist Rowan K. Briggs will be on display from Sept. 1 (Tuesday) through Oct. 23 (Friday) in the gallery at North Hall on the college Pottstown campus, 16 E. High St.
An opening reception of the exhibit is scheduled for Sept. 22 (Tuesday) from 6-8 p.m. Both are free to attend.
The college reports Briggs’ works “reveal the process of making modern, artful comic books, from the artist’s own Triskelion series to an adaptation of Shakespeare’s MacBeth. Briggs’s approach to bookmaking centers on strong storytelling and open-ended exploration of mixed media and collage.”
His art pushes “the boundaries between comic books and modern artist books. This exhibition showcases the creative and production process behind Briggs’s works,” it adds.
The North Hall gallery is open Mondays through Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and is closed Saturdays and Sundays.
In Blue Bell, An Anniversary Exhibit
Also opening Sept. 1, and continuing through Sept. 26, is the 30th anniversary exhibition of the Montgomery County Guild of Professional Artists. It will be held in the Fine Arts Center Gallery on MCCC’s Blue Bell campus, 340 DeKalb Pk., Blue Bell PA.
An opening reception there is scheduled for Sept. 24 (Thursday) from 5-8 p.m. Both are free to attend.
“New works celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Montgomery County artists’ cooperative,” the college says. “Seventeen artists from throughout the county will exhibit their work, ranging from paintings and photographs, to fibers and jewelry pieces.”
The Fine Arts Center Gallery is open Mondays through Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturdays from noon to 5 p.m., and is closed Sundays.
Also in Blue Bell, ‘Monumental’ Sculpture
On display through Oct. 9 (Friday) in MCCC’s Theater Gallery is “Mathemalchemy.” The display, which opened Aug. 10, is described by the college as a “monumental, multimedia sculpture that encourages interaction and exploration between mathematics and the arts.”
The gallery is located adjacent to the Montco Cultural Center Theater in the Science Building on the Blue Bell campus, using its 1313 Morris Rd. entrance.
“A team of two dozen artists and mathematicians collaborated on the piece,” according to the college, “to create a fun, exploratory artwork.” It “makes connections among coding and quilting, graffiti and wave equations, and bookmaking and mathematical history.”
Mathemalchemy also is a well-traveled exhibit. It has been on display at locations throughout North America during the past four years.
The Theater Gallery is open Mondays through Thursdays from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., Fridays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and is closed Sundays unless there is a performance in the theater.
