More Movies on Lawn Planned by Ursinus and CEDC

COLLEGEVILLE PA – Free movies for public enjoyment will return during July and August to the front lawn of Ursinus College, 601 E. Main St.

The movies are the result of partnership and planning by the college and the Collegeville Economic Development Corporation (CEDC). Their efforts continue the outdoor showings (occasionally moved indoors if Mother Nature misbehaves) that have been part of summer entertainment in the borough for several years.

On the screening schedule are:

• July 24 (Friday) at 8:30 p.m., “Lady and the Tramp,” the classic Disney animated musical comedy and an audience favorite since its release in 1955. “It follows Lady, a pampered American Cocker Spaniel, and Tramp, a roguish stray. The film is famous for its spaghetti-sharing scene at Tony’s Town Square Restaurant.” Arrive earlier though (space is available beginning at 7 p.m.), because there’s also entertainment offered from 7:30-8:30 p.m. before the show. Harry Oehler will direct a Wind Ensemble of woodwinds, brass, and percussion in playing Disney-related and other tunes; and
• Aug. 7 (Friday) at 8:30 p.m., “The Muppet Movie,” the 1979 original that launched a Muppet craze. It follows “Kermit the Frog (as he) decides to pursue a movie career (and) starts his cross-country trip from Florida to California. Along the way, he meets and befriends Fozzie Bear, Miss Piggy, Gonzo, and rock musicians Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem.” Before the show, from 7:30-8:30 p.m., pianist Alan Dynin of the Community Music School will play Disney tunes and old-time piano music.

Be comfortable watching the movies. Ensure you bring enough chairs or blankets to sit on, organizers urge, as no seating is provided.

Free Parking, Snacks for Sale

Free parking is available for movie-goers, too. Drive into the campus on East Fifth Avenue, behind the Collegeville Fire Company building. Park around Corson Hall, or in lots near the Facilities building. Handicapped parking is located in the Corson lots. Additional parking is available in the Ninth Avenue parking lot adjacent to 179 E. Ninth Ave.

Think you’ll need a snack?

• The CEDC will sell Philly pretzels, freshly made popcorn, and bottles of water;
• The La Familia Food Truck will offer fruit and Dubai cups, milk shakes, fruit smoothies, ice cream, Italian water Ice, Nutella and Dubai crepes, acai bowls, Mexican street tacos, TexMex quesadillas, tostadas, and corn; and
• Kona Ice will sell water ice.
