HARRISBURG PA – Seven organizations, museums, and local governments within Montgomery, Berks and Chester counties are receiving more than $411,000 in Keystone Historic Preservation Grants, a Pennsylvania agency reports.
The money is part of about $2.2 million presented by the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission to 36 recipients overall. The grants are intended to “revitalize local landmarks, boost municipal planning, and support community preservation projects” as part of the state’s America 250 celebrations, the commission states in a media release.
Locally, money went to:
- Montgomery County, totaling $183,686, for proposals from Historic Trappe ($75,475) in Trappe PA, Morgan Log House Historical Society ($100,000) in Lansdale PA, and the Wissahickon Valley Historical Society ($8,211) in Blue Bell PA;
- Montgomery and Berks counties, totaling $100,000, for the Colebrookdale Railroad Preservation Trust in Boyertown PA; and;
- Chester County, totaling $127,715, for East Coventry Township ($97,399), Schuylkill Township ($5,316), and Voices Underground ($25,000) in Kennett Square PA.
Grant Uses, and Funding Sources
Grant amounts range from $5,000 to $25,000 for planning grants, and $5,000 to $100,000 for construction projects. All grants require a 50-50 cash match, according to the commission. They were “awarded through a rigorous selection process,” it adds.
With Pennsylvania taking center stage for the U.S. Semiquincentennial, the commission says it “is actively prioritizing and promoting projects … that directly embody the spirit of America’s 250th anniversary. It believes “these investments will showcase the Commonwealth’s enduring role as the Keystone of American History to residents and visitors alike throughout the commemorative year.”
The grants, announced on June 11 (2026; Thursday), are funded by a portion of state realty transfer tax revenue that is transferred to the Keystone Recreation, Park & Conservation Fund.
