EXETER PA – “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,” the side-splitting musical comedy that takes its audience a step back in time to ancient Rome, begins a two-weekends-only run beginning June 12 (2026; Friday) at the Reading Civic Theatre, 4350 Perkiomen Ave.

The hilarious, Tony Award-winning musical masterpiece introduces a night of pure, unadulterated chaos, slamming doors, and unforgettable music.” It will be presented:
- June 12 and 13 at 7:30 p.m.;
- June 14 at 2 p.m.;
- June 19 and 20 at 7:30 p.m.; and
- June 21 at 2 p.m.
The theater is located in the “Reading Mall” shopping center, which also is home to a Boscov’s Department Store.
Scheming, Panic, and Love
Matt Hottenstein leads the chaos as the scheming slave Pseudolus, with Joe Berardi bringing high-energy panic to the stage as Hysterium. Young love takes center stage with James Francisco as the love-struck Hero and Malana Wilson as the beautiful Philia.
Audiences will love the bickering dynamic of Jeff Yoder as Senex and Tara Feathers as his formidable wife, Domina. Matt Allen storms the stage as the boastful captain Miles Gloriosus. Barry Ciabattoni portrays the notorious merchant Marcus Lycus, and Mark Christy completes the madness as the perpetually confused wanderer, Erronius.
Other cast members include Jennifer Skinner as Tintinabula, Alyiah Daniels as Panacea, Charolette Baumguard as Geminae, Maxi Estrada as Vibrata, Elizabeth Fry as Gemnasia, and ensemble members Josh Jarmoski, Cody Hoppes, Tim Allen, and Delia.
The theatre production is brought to life under direction of Brandon Kegerize, and musical leadership of Music Director Charles Troxel. Dance numbers are crafted by Choreographer Charlotte Baumgard. The entire production is overseen by Producer Jeannette DeAngelo, and kept running by Stage Manager Jessica Skelly.
