POTTSTOWN PA – Looking for something a little funky to add to your garden? Maybe a few hard-to-find perennials. Some carnivorous curiosities. Possibly a mushroom or two? Saturday’s (May 16, 2026) “Funky Plant Sale,” from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Althouse Arboretum, 1794 Gilbertsville Rd., can possibly satisfy your craving for the strange.
The arboretum’s special sale is, admittedly, unusual. Its offerings are “unlike traditional nursery stock,” volunteers say. The sale presents the products of growers who favor conversation-starting plants: botanical oddities, rare tropicals, delightfully odd house plants. Think of them as plants with personality, history, and flair.
To overcome potential timidity, the arboretum will have specialty growers on-site as well. They can offer fun facts about the plants being made available, as well as growing tips and care advice. For gardeners who insist, the sale also offers a large selection of native plants, fruit trees, vegetables, and herbs.
Be forewarned: there’s a price to be paid for a chance to snag the unexpected. The arboretum will charge a $5 admission per car between 9 and 10 a.m. only, a fee that gives early birds a first chance at the goods. Then, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., entry is free.
