POTTSTOWN PA – If you hoped to get last-minute tickets to see the Steel River Playhouse production of “Elf,” scheduled for four remaining performances through Sunday (Dec. 17, 2023), you’d better hurry.
Really hurry.
“Elf” has proven to be the best-selling presentation in the playhouse’s 15-year history, the theater announced on its Instagram page. Tickets are not just scarce, they’re now rare. As of Monday morning (Dec. 11), only slightly more than a dozen were available across the 7 p.m. shows Saturday (Dec. 16) and Sunday, and the 2 p.m. matinées for the same dates.
At the theater, 245 E. High St., the 11-performance musical has set a new record for Steel River sales. The last contender for the best-ever-seller title was “The Addams Family,” offered in 12 performances from Oct. 13-29. “Elf” has filled more seats in fewer stagings; “this show has proven especially popular,” the theater acknowledged.
There is a glimmer of hope for those in dire need of an elfen fix. Steel River reported some current ticket-holders, particularly those in groups, are graciously letting the theater know in advance of any seats they won’t fill. “Don’t hesitate to call the box office (at 610-970-1199) to see if any tickets have become available,” it added.
“We do our best to accommodate everyone, whether it is a ticket exchange or looking for a seat that may have opened up,” the playhouse added. “Unfortunately we can’t always help. But, we try!”
Available tickets also may appear online. If so, it’s been suggested, grab ’em before they disappear.
Planning farther ahead
Tickets for future shows during the rest of the Steel River season – “Brunch with Buddy and Friends,” “The N-Crowd,” “The Cake,” “Steel Magnolias,” “Nunsense A-Men!,” and “The Prom” – also are already available online. Playhouse directors, management, and staff said they would be delighted to take early orders on them.
A better way to avoid disappointment, the theater recommends, is to buy season tickets. That way prospective audience members not only have a foot in the door of each performance, but also can choose their specific seats.
The interest in “Elf” and “The Addams Family” reflects a happy trend for Steel River, which like other entertainment venues faced its share of difficulty during the COVID- and early post-pandemic periods.
“It’s exciting for us to see this kind of response from our community,” the playhouse noted. “We’re delighted to see audiences filling the seats again. We take pride in providing a welcoming environment for everyone, and in offering top-notch productions as well as educational experiences.”
