POTTSTOWN PA – The second of seven “Pottstown Play Streets” events, intended to create safe, fun, and healthy spaces for children, families, and neighbors right near their homes, is scheduled for Thursday (June 22). It will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the field of Pottstown Middle School, 600 N. Franklin St.
The Play Streets effort, which last year received an Excellence in Recreation and Parks Award from the Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Society, temporarily closes a neighborhood block to traffic. That gives kids of all ages more space to be active. Then it’s set-up with tables for partner outreach and activities (at top), and the distribution of free play equipment (below) for the two-hour period.
Five additional Play Streets dates are already scheduled, with the same hours, for:
- June 29, Cherry Street Park, 115 S. Evans St.;
- July 13, Barth Elementary School field, 467 W. Walnut St.;
- July 20, Washington West Street Park, 433 West St.;
- July 27, Chestnut Street Park, 114 N. Washington St.; and
- Aug. 10, Spruce Street Park, 749 Juniper St.
Should a cancellation be necessary, public notice will be posted to the Pottstown Parks and Recreation Facebook page by 3:30 p.m. the day of the event.
The award-winning program is a collaboration of many partners within or serving borough communities. They represent a who’s who of agencies and organizations dedicated to the health and well-being of Pottstown residents and families.
All expect to attend one or more of the scheduled dates. Members of the 2023 Play Streets coalition include:
