SCHWENKSVILLE PA – A $6,000 grant to support Miko’s Place, a Schwenksville-based non-profit that assists victims of domestic abuse, was awarded Wednesday (Oct. 14, 2026) by the ALTA Good Deeds Foundation.
Miko’s Place is one of 20 community organizations that will equally share $120,000 in funding. The money is provided by the foundation, which is the charitable arm of the American Land Title Association (ALTA).
Association members are practitioners in, or representatives of, the nation’s title insurance industry. Title insurance protects home owners and their lenders from financial loss due to past defects in, or legal disputes over, a property’s ownership.
Founded in 2023 by Tina Guerrieri, Miko’s Place aspires “to be a sanctuary and safe haven for individuals facing domestic violence,” its website says. Its mission, it adds, is to “guide and empower victims, helping them not only (to) survive … but thrive.” The organization is named for Guerrieri’s mother, who suffered years of abuse and isolation imposed by her husband.
Miko’s Place and the other 19 grant winners all were nominated by its members, the association reports. The awards were announced during ALTA’s just-concluded annual conference in Scottsdale AZ.
The foundation “is built around the idea that local organizations can have an extraordinary impact when they have the resources and support to carry out their missions,” says Steve Day, the foundation board’s chair and a past president of ALTA.
Support at ‘The Local Level’
Its members, Day explains, “see the needs in their communities first-hand. We are proud to support the organizations they nominate that are helping families, serving neighbors, and making their communities stronger.”
The grants support “charities that work at the local level to strengthen communities and improve lives,” according to the foundation. This year’s recipients are located in Indiana, Texas, and Wisconsin (2 each), as well as in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, and Virginia (1 each).
Since its creation in 2020, the foundation says it has awarded more than $1.6 million in grants to non-profit organizations in 48 states and the District of Columbia.
The association, founded in 1907, represents an industry comprised of more than 17,000 title insurance companies across the country. More than 90% operate as small businesses, it notes.
