In this edition of Pottstown Foodie, owners of Lorenzo’s Steaks and Hoagies are expanding their three-restaurant enterprise to four, in Boyertown. Also planning a Boyertown arrival is Mexican restaurant Taqueria Las Vias.
Additionally, food service providers in Limerick and Audubon were recent partners in Montgomery County’s “Hunger Stops Here” campaign.
Add Boyertown to Locations for Lorenzo’s Steaks & Hoagies

BOYERTOWN PA – You can already find Lorenzo’s Steaks & Hoagies, labeled as “a popular cheesesteak joint,” in West Chester, Manayunk, and Southampton PA.
In only weeks, according to owners Giovanni and Antonio Nilli and Angelo and Antonio Coppola, future diners can add Boyertown to that list.
As of Wednesday (Oct. 7), the exact location had yet to be revealed. On its Facebook page, management teases that the announcement is coming soon … but not yet.
A few borough residents may already be Lorenzo’s patrons.
The WhatNow Philadelphia news website reports some folks have occasionally traveled from eastern Berks and western Montgomery counties to West Chester for their sandwich fix. Their interest, and Boyertown’s reputation as a “calm” and welcoming community, prompted the notion of an expansion.
Lorenzo’s menu reportedly is known for 14-ounce hand-cut ribeye steaks, made-to-order hoagies weighing in at 2 pounds, and Black Angus burgers.
It also features what are called “Fat Subs.” An example? The “Double Bypass,” referencing a heart attack. Said to be far more than a cheesesteak, it comes topped with American cheese, barbecue sauce, onion rings, mozzarella sticks, and fries.
For variety, restaurants offer a “Fat Harambe.” It’s a cheesesteak too, but adds marinara sauce, American cheese, chicken fingers, fries, and mozzarella sticks.
Lorenzo’s ran a contest on Facebook, challenging readers to guess where its new location would be. It awarded a cheesesteak to each reader (there were many!) who correctly guessed “Boyertown” as the location. Other local choices among 133 entries included Phoenixville, Collegeville, and Harleysville.
Also Arriving in Boyertown, ‘Taqueria Las Vias,’ During November

BOYERTOWN PA – A new restaurant featuring traditional Mexican food is expected to open during November in Boyertown.
Taqueria Las Vias will open in the 116 E. Philadelphia Ave. space formerly occupied by Carmelo’s Pizza and Italian Ice, as initially reported in a video reel on the Facebook page of Berks County Views. The new restaurant’s arrival was heralded by a variety of “Coming Soon” signs on the site’s exterior windows.
A specific opening date has not yet been announced.
Taqueria Las Vias owner Pablo Cruz is no stranger to restaurants. Cruz also owns a similar business, Taqueria El Habanero, in Ambler PA, according to WhatNow Philadelphia. Both locations will serve menu items that include quesadillas, burritos, nachos, tacos, tostadas and tortas, WhatNow regional reporter Courtney McGinley writes.
Local Food Providers Assist ‘Hunger Stops Here’ Campaign

NORRISTOWN PA – Two local food service businesses joined the Montgomery County Food Policy Council on Saturday (Oct. 3) to raise awareness about food insecurity within the county.
The council held a community meal at Eisenhower Science and Technology Leadership Academy in Norristown as part of its “Hunger Stops Here” campaign. The meal connected community residents to organizations that provide food access, health and human services, benefits enrollment, and other programs.
Supplying meal items as council partners, it reports, were Suzy Jo Donuts, which operates in Limerick; Corropolese Italian Bakery & Deli, with locations in Limerick and Audubon; Mission BBQ, King of Prussia; El Primo Produce, Norristown; and Via Veneto Pizza, East Norriton.
The county Department of Health and Human Services reports that about 85,000 county residents are affected by food insecurity.
Our reporting on local dining covers activities and events of restaurants, and food or beverage suppliers, within Montgomery, Berks, and Chester PA counties. Find more articles here. Also, see or follow “Pottstown Foodie” on Facebook.
