POTTSTOWN PA – Three authors, whose written works touch on facets of data center technology, will be featured speakers during an October “community conversation” planned in Pottstown.
Titled “Technology and the Environment: From Data Centers to Disaster Culture,” the discussion is scheduled to be held Oct. 15 (Thursday) at 6:30 p.m. in the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 1565 S. Keim St.
The event is free to attend and open to the public. No registration is required. The program also is available virtually on the Zoom conferencing platform, using the passcode 021113.
The talk is being hosted by The Uplifting Voices Project, a local non-profit organization. The group reports its speaker series recently observed its first anniversary.
The October 15 session intends to cover “the growing intersection of technology and the environment,” in part through the authors’ thoughts on “climate, disaster, and the ethics of emerging technology.”

Leading the Data Center Discussion
Featured are writers:
- Patrick Reilly, an environmental attorney and author of an award-winning science fiction novel, “Ice’s End.” It imagines a future a century from now shaped by water scarcity and capitalism;
- Josh Dale, a local author and editor-in-chief of Thirty West Publishing House. He will discuss the ethical and environmental questions artificial intelligence is raising within the publishing industry; and
- Robert Ficociello, an author and English professor at Holy Family University whose academic work, “American Disaster Culture,” examines society’s relationship with natural disasters. His new children’s book, “Lucia and Marcus Go to Space,” spotlights female scientists.
Besides presentations by all three the program includes time for an open discussion, and audience questions and answers.
Books will be available for purchase. Food and refreshments will be served following the presentations. Those who attend will have an opportunity “to connect directly with the speakers and one another,” Uplifting Voices adds.
