POTTSTOWN PA – A solo exhibition of 2001-2026 paintings by Russell Brodie begins Oct. 1 (Thursday) and runs through Oct. 31 (Saturday) at the Black Moth Tattoo & Gallery, 2209 E. High St. Ste. 3, artist and gallery owner Steve Martin reports.
The exhibit is free to attend and open to the public.
Brodie says his art is “focused on light, color, and composition, with strong emphasis on architecture and sunlight. I seek to capture the specificity of each place depicted.”
Brodie’s work during the past 25 years has been to develop “miniature oil paintings in response to the communities the artists live in and travels to, extolling their quiet charms,” Martin explains.
The Value of Scaling Down
The show includes a small Brodie self-portrait, the first of its size completed years ago.
“I have enjoyed exploring this scale ever since,” the artist adds. “For me, scaling down has always been a way of getting myself to look at things more closely, and trying to capture the moments of light that show what is unique about each place and time.”
“I am committed to making art accessible in daily life,” Brodie says. “Small paintings have advantages in portability and ease of installation.”
Black Moth exhibitions are open, according to its website, Thursdays through Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. All works are available for sale online. “Do not miss the opportunity to view these wonderful works in person,” Martin suggests. For more information, call 610-642-1500.
