LOWER POTTSGROVE PA – A beginner bird-watching event, the second of its kind this year in Lower Pottsgrove Township, is scheduled to be held Sept. 26 (2026; Saturday) at 8 a.m. in Ringing Rocks Park, 1880 N. Keim St. The event is free to attend.

“Whether you’re completely new to birding, or simply curious to learn more, this beginner-friendly program is a great opportunity to explore nature,” the township reported in a Thursday (Aug. 27) media release.

Participants can “learn how to identify common local birds, and discover helpful bird-watching tips. No previous bird-watching experience is necessary,” it added.

Advance registration is requested by calling the municipal building at 610-323-0436, and ask for its administrative assistant.

Be forewarned, though: township promotional material states the event is limited to a maximum of 12 people. Those interested are encouraged to sign up quickly.

Participants should wear comfortable walking shoes, and bring binoculars, tick repellent, and drinking water, it urges. Parking is suggested at the township’s nearby Yerger Road parking lot. If inclement weather is anticipated on the September date, an Oct. 10 (Saturday) alternative is planned.

June 2026 minutes of the township Parks and Recreation Board indicate participants in an earlier bird-watch were “very enthusiastic” about the experience.

Never Been to Ringing Rocks Park?

With 38.4 acres, Ringing Rocks is Lower Pottsgrove’s second-largest of its 12 parks and open spaces. Only Sanatoga Park, with its lake and 54 acres, is bigger.

Ringing Rocks also provides terrain that birds of many species enjoy. The park landscape includes a stream and pond, trails, and a large wooded area. Its also is decorated, here and there, with colorful and youthfully painted rocks and outcroppings.

Depending on the hillside adjacent to the pond, hikers report trail difficulty ranges from easy to moderate. The forest there is usually silent as well, they add, and is little affected by occasional traffic on Keim Street.

West Pottsgrove Issues Yard Waste Reminder

STOWE PA – Yard waste collections in West Pottsgrove Township will be held weekly on Wednesdays during the months of October and November, the municipality reminded its residents.

The township sent its reminder Friday (Aug. 28, 2026) to all residents enrolled to receive messages from Montgomery County’s ReadyMontco alert system. It likely will make use of other message delivery vehicles as well, because not all property owners are part of ReadyMontco.

Acceptable yard waste, according to West Pottsgrove’s website, includes tree trimmings of up to 2 inches in diameter and 4 feet in length; shrubbery and hedge trimmings; and prunings and garden waste. Not accepted are tree roots, or branches longer than 4 feet or wider than 2 inches in diameter.

Only compostable paper bags or open top containers, with a weight limit of 50 or fewer pounds, can be used for yard waste pickups, it adds.

With fall approaching, the township also reported it has a supply of yard waste bags at the township office complex, 980 Grosstown Rd. “They are available on a first-come, first-serve basis,” it added.
