Fun for Families! Renovated Manderach Playground Re-Opens Saturday in Limerick

August 12, 2026

LIMERICK PA – Limerick residents on Saturday (Aug. 15, 2026) can enjoy the grand re-opening of the township’s newly renovated Manderach Memorial Playground.

A special ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned for 11:30 a.m. at the playground in Limerick Community Park, 180 Swamp Pk. It also will precede the township’s annual Community Day observance. Both events are free to attend and open to the public. The playground’s use is free, too.

Its re-opening is right on schedule. In closing the playground last Oct. 27 for its $2.4 million overhaul, Limerick officials predicted it would be finished by the following August.

That long-awaited snip of a ribbon represents “an exciting new chapter” for the playground, the township says.

It will continue to honor and celebrate the lives of Lisa and Devon Manderach. The original playground was built in their names nearly three decades ago.

Creating Lasting Memories

Now, the township adds, “their memory and legacy will continue through this special community space where children and families can play, gather, and create lasting memories together.”

If the past is any indication, those lasting memories will be shared far beyond Limerick’s borders.

The former Manderach Memorial Playground regularly attracted visitors from as far away as Philadelphia and Allentown. Most were families initially drawn to other businesses and locations along the U.S. Route 422 corridor.

When asked, many said they had heard from others of the playground’s huge size, its varied equipment, and nearby picnic shelters. They wanted to experience it themselves, they added.

An Abundance of Love

The original playground opened in the park during September 1998. Efforts by local volunteers, and an out-pouring of community love, made it a reality.

The Manderachs died in a 1995 attack by a lone man in a retail store. The community’s grief was expressed in action, by creating the memorial.

Donations came in from families, friends, and those who learned about the tragedy and wanted to help. Local businesses and organizations also were generous. Over a two-year period, the playground campaign collected about $250,000 to help pay for the former structure.

After 27 years of use, the facility was showing its age. The township began planning for its new version.

Officials sought not only to perpetuate the memorial, but also to enhance its safety. Additionally, the playground provides all-inclusive elements to be enjoyed by children of all ages and abilities.
