Colebrookdale Metals Company to Expand With Loan

Boyertown Special Metals Company Plans to Expand

August 10, 2026

BOYERTOWN PA – Global Advanced Metals, an Australian company that operates a facility at 1223 County Line Rd., plans to expand. It specializes in processing raw materials for defense and aerospace uses.

The Export-Import Bank of the United States is providing Global Advanced Metals with a $25 million investment.

A White House fact sheet, issued Friday (Aug. 7, 2026), says the money will help the company create another facility. It will process the metals “tantalum and niobium to support electronic, magnet, and steel production,” the White House adds.

The local investment was one of 10 mentioned following a round-table on American mining, conducted by President Donald Trump. Loans also were provided to firms in Minnesota, California, Alabama, and other states, as well as in Madagascar.

In addition to the bank, funding for the remaining nine projects was provided by the federal Department of War, Development Finance Corporation, and Department of Energy.

The overall total reportedly represents more than $2 billion in critical mining projects, and $180 million for mining workforce education. Trump characterized it as “reawakening the spirit of the Gold Rush.”

Paired Together in Nature

Niobium and tantalum have “shared physical and chemical properties,” the U.S. Geological Survey explains. They are “almost always paired together in nature,” it adds.

“Niobium is a lustrous, gray, ductile metal with a high melting point, relatively low density, and superconductor properties. Tantalum is a dark blue-gray, dense, ductile, very hard, and easily fabricated metal.”

The survey notes that niobium is vital for high-strength steels and aerospace; and tantalum, for micro-capacitors and medical implants.

In addition to its Boyertown plant, the company also operates facilities in Australia and Japan.
