HARRISBURG PA – Traffic signals and pedestrian safety are expected to improve in Pottstown Borough, thanks to substantial grant funding announced Tuesday (Aug. 4, 2026)
The borough will receive $632,400 from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation under its Green Light-Go Program, the state reports. The funding should “make Pottstown a safer, more connected place,” 146th House District Rep. Joe Ciresi adds.
The money will be used to “replace and install accessible pedestrian signals throughout the borough,” according to the department.
Additionally, it will pay to “modernize traffic signals at the intersections of Route 100 and King Street, and Route 100 and Shoemaker Road.” Traffic accidents have occurred at both intersections over a period of years.
The award to Pottstown is part of a total of $38 million being distributed by PennDOT to 86 municipalities statewide.
Green Light-Go is a competitive, PennDOT-administered program. It intends to improve the efficiency and operation of existing traffic signals in Pennsylvania.
Grant regulations specify what types of improvements are permitted. Applicants must provide at least a 20% match to the grant funding.

Montgomery, Berks, and Chester Totals
In all, 12 Montgomery County municipalities received a combined total of $4.5 million.
Besides Pottstown, another Montgomery County grant recipient was Upper Providence Township in the amount of $466,760. Its money will implement traffic signal safety and operation upgrades at eight identified township intersections.
In Berks County, seven municipalities received grants with a total of $2.28 million. Included in that sum was $203,501 for Robeson Township, for traffic signal and safety upgrades at intersections on Main Street. The city of Reading won $251,390 for modernization upgrades at three intersections.
In Chester County six municipalities received grants totaling $1.61 million. They included West Pikeland Township, $327,708, for full traffic signal modernization at the intersection of Kimberton Road (Route 113) and Conestoga Road (Route 401).
