Pottstown Discovery Center Assists Maternity Care Families

Pottstown Discovery Center Assists Maternity Care Families

August 2, 2026

POTTSTOWN PA – Area residents have an opportunity, through Aug. 8 (2026; Saturday), to help one Pottstown non-profit organization assist another in an effort to benefit families with infants and young children in need.

The Pottstown Children’s Discovery Center is soliciting donations of much-needed childcare items to support the Maternity Care Coalition of Pottstown. They include diapers and baby wipes, infant formula, board books, age-appropriate toys, new baby clothes, and gift cards.

All can be purchased locally and dropped off to the center at 95 S. Hanover St. Those who drop off donations can add a heart to a special center’s display in the center, and receive a color-changing cup as a thank you.

Don’t have the time or inclination to go shopping yourself? Find dozens of pre-selected choices, at a wide variety of prices, online as part of an Amazon shopping “wish list.”

The Discovery Center has been active for several years. It officially opened on South Hanover Street in June 2025, and has since expanded. Parents generally praise the center as a hands-on place for kids to learn while enjoying themselves.

Officially, its mission is to inspire “curiosity, creativity, and a love of learning” that empowers children “to dream big, explore boldly, and thrive through play.”

Help from the ‘Compassion Corner’

Part of the center’s expansion, made possible by assistance from by A.D. Moyer Lumber and the Pottstown Rotary Club, is the addition of its “Compassion Corner.”

The Compassion Corner was created last summer to both educate families and collaborate with other local organizations, the center explains in a Facebook post. It is teaming up with a variety of groups – the coalition is the latest – to share efforts that “help our community thrive together.”

The 40-year-old Maternity Care Coalition serves Montgomery, Berks, Chester and five other Pennsylvania counties, as well as three counties in Delaware. It operates locally from an office at 262 King St.

It provides support for families with children from pregnancy through age 3. Its services include home visits, childcare, community and parenting education, community doula and lactation support, behavioral health, and community reproductive health.
