ROYERSFORD PA – A July 13 (2026; Monday) presentation on “Early Native Americans, The Leni Lenape,” is intended to help families discover the local history of the Leni Lenape tribe. The event is the second of four family summer history programs offered by the Spring-Ford Area Historical Society.
It is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. beneath the outdoor pavilion at the society museum, 526 Main St. Society President Ryan Conroy will display and interpret some of the Native American artifacts from the museum’s collection. They include a recently donated huge grinding stone.
The summer program is free to attend. Advance registration, which is not required, is appreciated and may be available online or by calling 215-859-1798.

Later on the Calendar
The family summer programs provide “something of interest for everyone” the society promises. Following later during July and August are:
- “The Spinning Wheel,” July 27 (Monday) at 7 p.m., sponsored by Mark and Rebecca Elliott. In order to survive in colonial America, it was necessary for the average family to make their own clothing. The labor-intensive process of turning wool into yarn, and then into fabric, took many hours. Come and observe a spinning expert from Quiver Farm to watch the process. Meet two furry friends: a sheep and an Angora rabbit, and learn how to spin; and
- “A Visit With Benjamin Franklin,” Aug. 10 (Monday) at 7 p.m., sponsored by Handel’s Homemade of Royersford. he life of one of the best-known and most-beloved founding fathers, Benjamin Franklin, captures the imaginations of young and old. Spend some time with Franklin, portrayed by William Ochester, and his tales of colonial America. Learn about this printer, scientist, inventor, diplomat and statesman.
Other Local History Programs
The historical society also has two remaining dates for its 2026 local history programs. Both are held at the Royersford VFW, 730 S. Fourth Ave., and are scheduled to start at 7 p.m. They focus on topics related to the country’s 250th anniversary:
- On Sept. 9 , “Sewing the Symbol,” a history of flag manufacturing in southeast Pennsylvania, by Candace Perry; and
- Nov. 11, “Origins: The Lenape, William Penn and the Colonists,” by Ellen Endslow.
