
BIRDSBORO PA – A 2026 “signature event” that commemorates the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence is scheduled for June 27 (2026; Saturday) from noon to 8 p.m. at the birthplace of American frontiersman Daniel Boone: the Daniel Boone Homestead, 400 Daniel Boone Rd.
“Join us for an immersive, living history event featuring colonial and early American demonstrations, trades, and activities,“ the homestead suggests.” Visitors can meet Gen. George Washington, and learn about life on and off the battlefield.
They have an opportunity to visit a military encampment, and engage with re-enactors. They also can hear the Brandywine Colonials Fife and Drum Corps during the afternoon, then enjoy a reading of the Declaration of Independence and live music on the lawn.

Open-Hearth Cooks, and Talented Workers
As visitors make their way through the Historic Area, they can take a tour through the Boone House, and see an open-hearth cooking demonstration. Throughout the historic area, visitors can learn about the intricate work of a leather-worker, the detailed work of a gunsmith, and the skillful work of a blacksmith
Learn how these important artisans contributed to the war efforts. Plus, visit an American Indian exhibit to learn about the role indigenous people played in America’s fight for independence.
At the homestead’s Bertolet Log House, visitors will hear from living history interpreters about the colonial militia and Dragoons. They can participate in a muster activity, using wooden dummy guns and swords. Head to the Revolutionary War medical hospital and surgeon display, in the Wayside Lodge, where visitors can view period medical instruments and learn about medical practices during the War.
In addition to demonstrations and trades, a variety of 18-century hands-on activities are available for children and adults to enjoy. They include quill pen writing, and colonial toys and games.
Warwick Cannon on Special Display
As part of this event, the homestead also will exhibit one of Warwick Furnace’s American Revolution cannons, thanks to the Thomas P. Bentley Nature Preserve and French and Pickering Creeks Conversation Trust. The 4,500-pound cannon, and three others, were unearthed during 2022 at Warwick Furnace. They had remained there for 246 years.
Admission costs $15 for adults, $12 for seniors, $5 for youths age 6-17, and children age 5 and under are admitted free.
No pets (except service animals) are allowed, and smoking is prohibited. The event is presented and funded by The Daniel Boone Homestead Associates. Supporters of the homestead’s celebration include America250PA-Berks County, The Highlands of Wyomissing, and Longview Financial Consulting-Bob Wert.
