Chester County Mushroom Grower Begins Online Sales
KENNETT SQUARE PA – A Chester County grower of organic specialty mushrooms, which for years has provided its products to local supermarkets, says it has now launched a direct-to-consumer sales website.
The company, Caputo & Guest LLC based in Kennett Square, says it is offering a line-up of fresh, farm-to-table organic mushrooms, sold in packages of 2-, 4-, and 6-pounds. They will be fresh-packed, shipped, and delivered free directly to home kitchens across 42 states.
Varieties include Shiitake, King Oyster, Lion’s Mane, Pearl Oyster, Maitake, Prime Steakhouse Mix, and Wood-Fired Pizza Mix. Each is sustainably grown in the U.S. on its vertically integrated farm, using a proprietary blend of blend of organic oak, poplar sawdust, and grains, the company claims. Ordering is available online.
Caputo & Guest was founded in 1977. Area retailers carrying its products include Giant Foods and Trader Joe’s.

84 Lumber Campaign Honors Nation’s 250th Birthday

DOUGLASSVILLE PA – 84 Lumber, which operates a yard and store at 1484 Ben Franklin Hwy., Douglassville, says it will launch a “Building America250” campaign to commemorate the nation’s 250th anniversary during 2026. The company describes it as a “tribute honoring the past, present, and future of the industry that built America.”
“For 70 years, 84 Lumber has supplied materials and expertise that have helped America build homes, businesses, and communities across this country,” company owner and CEO Maggie Hardy adds. “Building America250 is our way to highlight that legacy, and say thank you to those whose hard work and commitment have helped shape the American dream.”
The campaign, 84 Lumber notes, is expected to “engage customers, vendor partners, and associates through a series of stories and initiatives throughout the year.” It has not yet cited store-specific events or activities.

Grants Available from Pennsylvania American Water’s Foundation

MECHANICSBURG PA – Pennsylvania non-profits and other organizations that hope to qualify grant funding from the American Water Charitable Foundation must submit their applications by its March 6 (2026; Friday) deadline, it reports.
The foundation is the charitable arm of American Water, and its Pennsylvania American Water subsidiary. It is currently accepting grant applications under its “2026 Water and Environment Grant Program.”
In last year’s program the foundation awarded a combined total of $1.7 million to 80 organizations in 12 states. They included the Schuylkill River Greenways National Heritage Area in Pottstown, $10,000; Greener Partners in Norristown, $5,000; and the Stroud Water Research Center in Avondale, Chester County, $10,000.
Program money is offered for projects that promote clean water, conservation, environmental education, climate variability and water-based recreation. More information about qualifying, and submitting an application, is available online.
