HARLEYSVILLE PA – Crews from and contractors for PECO Energy are expected to start work during March (2026) on upgrades to the company’s electricity distribution system in Lower Salford, the township says. Their efforts are likely to continue through mid-May.
The work will occur along St. Andrews Lane, Kulp Road, and Indian Crest Way. Electric service to some users may occasionally be temporarily interrupted, officials add.
PECO’s $260,000 investment includes:
- Laying new underground conduit and cable, installed by a machine designed for the purpose; and
- Installations or replacements for equipment like pad-mounted transformers. They are necessary to reduce electric voltage throughout neighborhoods, “and will require several feet of clearance to allow for future maintenance,” PECO says.
Its goal, the company reports, is to ensure its local electric infrastructure “can better withstand severe weather (and) improve reliability. The changes also will “support cleaner energy adoption,” it notes. It specifically cited offering resources for solar energy and electric vehicles.
PECO pledges to restore any affected yards or streets.

Plans to Minimize Disruptions
The township and PECO have planned in advance, they indicate, “to minimize direct customer impact as much as possible and to complete the project in a safe and timely manner. Because power may be cut for safety reasons, PECO says it intends to inform local residents “in advance of (its) activities and any planned interruptions.”
PECO customers in Lower Salford are being asked to ensure their phone contact information with the company is current, should outage alerts be necessary. The information in PECO’s database can be updated or changed online, or by calling the company at 1-800-494-4000.
