KING OF PRUSSIA PA – Volunteers are being sought Dec. 12-13 (2025; Friday and Saturday) to set up stands and assist in placing about 850 holiday wreaths.
The goal is to honor every veteran in the Washington Memorial Chapel cemetery, 2400 Valley Forge Park Rd., and those who served during the 1777–1778 Revolutionary War encampment at Valley Forge.
The wreath-laying effort represents the involvement of the chapel, its Veterans Commission, and the Society of Descendants of Washington’s Army at Valley Forge, in the annual Wreaths Across America Ceremony. Wreaths Across America is a non-profit organization founded in 1992 to expand wreath-laying ceremonies begun at Arlington National Cemetery.
Volunteers can sign up online.
The ceremony itself is scheduled for Saturday (Dec. 13) at 11 a.m. at the chapel, 2000 Valley Forge Park Rd. The Rev. Tim Steeves will serve as the ceremony’s speaker. The event is free to attend and open to the public.
Ceremony Marks Its Third Year
Now in its third year, the ceremony intends to unite “the community in honoring soldiers who perished” during encampment,“ as well as veterans laid to rest in the chapel churchyard, officials say. In its “tribute of gratitude and remembrance” for his or her service and sacrifice, the name of a veteran will be read aloud as each wreath is laid.
Volunteers also are sought to assist with the wreath clean-up on Jan. 17 (2026; Saturday). Registration is available online.
This year, Wreaths Across America estimates more than two million volunteers and supporters will gather for similar ceremonies at more than 5,200 participating locations across all 50 states, as well as at sea and abroad. For more information about the local ceremony, contact the chapel Veterans Commission at veteranscommission@wmchapel.org.
