HARRISBURG PA – Applications are being accepted for Pennsylvania’s Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, which helps state residents with their home heat bills. The application window officially opened Wednesday (Dec. 3, 2025), 24th District state Sen. Tracy Pennycuick reports.
For the 2025-2026 season the program, also known as LIHEAP, will operate through April 10. Its assistance does not need to be re-paid, and is available only as cash or crisis grants. This season, cash grant amounts range from $200 to $1,000. Qualifying households are eligible to receive only one cash grant during a season.
Those who applied for grants in earlier seasons are required to re-apply each year. Eligibility is based on income at or below 150% of the federal poverty limit. For an individual, that is a gross annual income of $22,590 or less, and for a family of four, $46,800 or less.
There is strong demand for the program, so applications should be filed as soon as possible. “Ensuring Pennsylvanians are warm this winter is essential. I encourage any family needing help with their heat costs to contact my office to apply for LIHEAP,” Pennycuick says.
The senator’s staff can be reached in her Red Hill PA office by phone, at 215-541-2388.
