POTTSTOWN PA – What does Pottstown need to reliably sustain the return of passenger rail service at its downtown transportation center? Community officials hope residents and business owners in the borough and nearby townships offer their suggestions during a Thursday (Nov. 6, 2025) open house.
Representatives of the Schuylkill River Passenger Rail Authority, and the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission, will be on hand from 4-7 p.m. in North Hall on the Pottstown campus of Montgomery County Community College, 16 E. High St. They want to talk about local station infrastructure needs at the center, where trains would stop for travelers.
Re-establishing intercity passenger rail service between Reading and Philadelphia, with stops in Pottstown and Phoenixville, has long been the goal of the rail authority. A planning commission project team says it is working to help the authority “identify opportunities to improve access, and promote transit-oriented development” near the center.
The desire is to provide new transportation options for travelers. Passenger rail service is anticipated to reduce traffic congestion, improve air quality, and promote local economic development. Public guidance may provide insight on how to accomplish those checklist items, the team indicates.
Your Thoughts Needed on Transportation Center
The free, 3-hour event intends to focus on participants’ thoughts and questions. Those interested are encouraged to drop by at any time during the open house, and talk with project team members. They can address:
- Opportunities new train service might present for residents, employees, and businesses;
- The planning commission’s work with the project;
- Public experiences of traveling to and through downtown Pottstown; and
- Efforts of the rail authority and its progress so far.
