POTTSTOWN PA – Time remains for artists to offer submissions for the 21st annual “Scenes of the Schuylkill” Greenways National Heritage Area juried art show and sale.
Original artworks or photographs on paper or canvas, or sculptures, of a scene within the heritage area will be accepted for consideration. Submission dates are Oct. 27 (2025; Monday) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Oct. 28 (Tuesday) from noon to 4 p.m., both at North Hall on the Pottstown campus of Montgomery County Community College, 16 W. High St.
Works proposed for submission “should communicate the distinctive nature of the region,” organizers say. They “can focus on people, the river, streams, landscape, or historic properties,” but “no artwork depicting flowers in vases will be accepted.”
Those unsure if their artwork qualifies are advised to send an e-mail to events@schuylkillriver.org for more information before submission.
Details about submissions are available online.
A Spotlight on the Region’s Qualities
The heritage area encompasses the Schuylkill River watershed within Schuylkill, Berks, Chester, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties. It includes more than 1.2 million acres and is home to 3.2 million people. The art show and sale “shines a spotlight on the unique qualities of the region, through the talents of the arts community,” according to organizers.
Cash prizes are awarded for winners of Best of Show, 2nd Prize, 3rd Prize, Staff Choice, two
Honorable Mentions for Paintings, two Honorable Mentions for Photography, and Best in Show Sculpture. Sales will be allowed at the show and exhibit, but are subject to a commission fee.
This year’s guest juror is David Aipperspach, a local painter and assistant professor of painting and printmaking at Ursinus College. He received his masters of fine arts degree in painting from Rhode Island School of Design, and a bachelor of arts degree in landscape architecture from the University of California, Berkeley. His artwork has been displayed from coast to coast.
The show opens to the public from Nov. 4 (Tuesday) through Nov. 21 on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the North Hall gallery. A reception for the show is scheduled for Nov. 5 (Wednesday) from 6-8 p.m., also in the gallery. Tickets are required for the reception and can be purchased online.
