BALTIMORE MD – Four non-profit organizations, which help protect the environment in area communities served with electricity provided by Constellation Energy Corp., on Monday (Oct. 13, 2025) were awarded a combined total of $135,000.
The money is designated to preserve natural resources and wildlife.
Awards benefiting projects in Montgomery and Chester counties are part of nearly $1.1 million being distributed by the Constellation Foundation. They will fund 46 environmental stewardship initiatives spread across Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, Illinois, and Texas.
The money represents the foundation’s second annual Constellation Leading Environmental Accelerators Network (CLEAN) Awards. It intends to directly fund efforts that enhance biodiversity, support climate adaptation, protect ecosystems, and increase environmental education.
Winners are selected in part because their proposals would beneficially affect communities where Constellation operates nuclear-fueled “clean energy” centers. Its Limerick PA generating facility is among them.
Projects Benefiting Pennsylvania
Among winners whose projects will benefit Pennsylvania, the foundation says, are:
- Schuylkill River Greenways, Pottstown PA, $25,000, for trail resurfacing of a mile-long off-road section on the Birdsboro portion of the Schuylkill River Trail. It includes scraping, leveling, laying new crushed stone, and compacting the surface to restore safe, accessible conditions for walkers, cyclists, and equestrian users;
- Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy, Schwenksville PA, $50,000, for a 350-acre, three-part “remove, reclaim, restore” project. The work includes removing 60,000 pounds of trash through the region’s largest single-day stream cleanup. It would reclaim waterways from invasive species like European water chestnut. Also, it will restore habitats by planting over 10,000 native plants;
- Chester Housing Initiatives Inc., Chester PA, $10,000, for the “Climate Resilient Agriculture” project at Ruth Bennett Community Farm. It focuses on sustainable urban farming, pollinator habitat creation, and community education. The project includes workshops, native plant installations, and distribution of pocket pollinator gardens; and
- Partnership for the Delaware Estuary, Wilmington DE, $50,000, to support the third phase of a multi-year shoreline restoration project. It uses concrete structures to stabilize 1,000 linear feet of shoreline and enhance aquatic habitat. A construction firm will install subtidal structures and shoreline stabilization materials; and deploy concrete materials to support fish habitats, reduce erosion, and release hatchery-raised native mussels.
‘Empowering Dedicated Sustainability Organizations’
“The CLEAN Awards are our way of recognizing and empowering dedicated sustainability organizations who are rolling up their sleeves every day to help build stronger, more vibrant communities,” according to Bryan Hanson, Constellation executive vice president and chief generation officer, and a foundation board member.
Other Pennsylvania organizations receiving Constellation’s Clean Award funding this year were Halifax Wildcat Education Foundation, Halifax PA, $15,000; Raven Ridge Wildlife Center, Washington Boro PA, $15,500; Red Creek Wildlife Center, Schuylkill Haven PA, $59,500; Watershed Alliance of York, York PA, $10,000; and White Clay Watershed Association, Landenberg PA, $21,000.
