BERWYN PA – A church’s traditional Christmas pageant takes some unexpected turns, leaving congregation members wondering if theirs could be the best, or worst!, pageant in history. That’s the drama, and the warmth, underlying the Footlighters Theater presentation of “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever!”
The play, based on the beloved holiday book of the same name, continues its run Friday through Sunday (Dec. 13-15, 2024) at the theater, 58 Main Ave.
Tickets are available now for online purchase. They cost $25 for adults; and $20 for seniors age 62 and older, students with proper identification, and children. Friday and Saturday shows start at 7 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m. Running time for the one-act show is about an hour with no intermission.
The story:
The earlier-mentioned twists have complicated the pageant. A new director takes over. A family of unruly children get involved. Adults and children alike are left searching for the true meaning of the season.
The church-goers are worried. Will the Herdman kids ruin it for everybody? Who moved the shepherd’s crooks? And will Gladys ever find her halo?
Local author Barbara Robinson adapted her 1972 book into this hilarious play. Director Erin Markham and Stage Manager Helena VanNatter assembled a cast of all ages to tell the story.
Ahead in the New Season
Great shows are ahead for the rest of the season at Footlighters. They include “An Adult Evening of Shel Silverstein;” “110 In The Shade;” “Urinetown;” and for one weekend only, “Broadway in Berwyn.” Auditions for the rest of the season are under way, and the theater also offers many ways to get involved as a volunteer.
Footlighters is the Main Line’s oldest community theater, a non-profit organization that has provided quality and affordable entertainment for more than 90 years.
