Work in Berks Planned Next Week on State Highways

ALLENTOWN PA – Road work on state highways in Berks County, including Bechtelsville Borough, Earl and Oley townships, and several municipalities along U.S. Route 422, is scheduled for Monday through Friday (May 13-17, 2024) by the Allentown-based District 5 office of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT).

Drivers should anticipate potential traffic delays, and are encouraged to use caution in work zones. Scheduled activities often depend on acceptable weather.

On the maintenance schedule

Its crews are expected:

  • In Bechtelsville Borough on Monday (May 13) from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Route 100, near Seisholtzville Road, for unspecified maintenance. Lane closures are planned in both directions with flagging;
  • In Earl Township on Tuesday (May 14) from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Route 73, between Route 100 and U.S. Route 222, for unspecified maintenance. Lane closures are planned in both directions with flagging;
  • In Oley Township on Wednesday (May 15) from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Route 73, between Route 100 and U.S. Route 222, for unspecified maintenance. Lane closures are planned in both directions with flagging;
  • In Oley Township on Thursday (May 16) from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Route 662, between U.S. Route 222 and Route 562, for unspecified maintenance. Lane closures are planned in both directions with flagging; and
  • On U.S. Route 422 from Monday through Friday (May 13-17) from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., between the Lebanon and Montgomery County lines, for work on the shoulder in both directions. No lane closures or flagging are planned, but drivers are asked to exercise care.

Drivers can check online for conditions on the state’s major roadways, using its free and always available 511PA website or smartphone app. It provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras.

Information about infrastructure, completed work, and significant projects in District 5 – which covers Berks, Carbon, Lehigh, Monroe, Northampton, and Schuylkill counties – also is online.
