HARRISBURG PA – What Pennsylvania House Democrats describe as a need to provide “steady and sufficient annual funding” to public transit agencies will be the subject of a Tuesday (Feb. 20, 2024) hearing.
The House Majority Policy Committee, at the request of Philadelphia state Rep. Ben Waxman, is scheduled to meet at 10 a.m. in the Irvis Office Building, Room G-50, on Commonwealth Avenue. It expects “to hear more about the needs, obstacles and options to properly funding public transit in Pennsylvania,” the committee reported in an e-mail.
In the greater Pottstown and Boyertown area, transit services are provided by Pottstown Area Rapid Transit; across western Montgomery County by the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA); across Berks County by the Berks Area Regional Transportation Authority; and in Chester County by ChesCo Connect.
The hearing also will be live-streamed at the committee’s webpage. It is free to attend or view, and is open to the public. State Rep. Ryan Bizzarro of Erie is the committee chair.
On the committee agenda as panelists who will offer testimony during the hearing are:
- Leslie Richards, CEO and general manager of SEPTA;
- Ariella Maron, executive director of the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission;
- Connor Descheemaker, coalition manger of Transit Forward Philadelphia; and
