LOWER POTTSGROVE PA – Depending on where you stood and how briskly the wind blew, temperatures Friday night (Nov. 10, 2023) in Pottsgrove High School’s stadium dropped to an almost frosty 36 degrees. However, The Falcons’ Marching Band – as nearly a hundred stadium spectators will attest – was hot.
The dozens of Pottsgrove students who are members of the 2023 state championship marching band seemed to have cared less about the chill, and certainly more about the thrill of performance. Their last and celebratory show of the season was scheduled specifically for the public, to thank it for support and sponsorship during the band’s championship run this year.
The band was undefeated in all of its competitions.
The evening event was one filled with occasionally eerie, and more often upbeat, music. It was accompanied by precision movements and a sound that have been praised for months by independent judging teams. It also included flashy and colorful graphics, and eye-catching visuals like an 8-foot-high cauldron.
Band Director Ellie Zerefos, before the show started, acknowledged the cold might make the band instruments sound “a little flat.” Judging by the audience reaction, no such problem occurred. Those in the stands cheered, hollered, and applauded what they heard.
