PENNSBURG PA – Utility work is scheduled Tuesday and Wednesday (Aug. 8-9, 2023) daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Route 29 between 10th and 11th streets in Pennsburg and Red Hill boroughs, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said.
A lane closure is planned on Route 29 (Main Street) at its intersection with 11th Street. That will allow PennDOT contractor H & K Group Inc. of Skippack to remove the superstructure and upper portion of the existing Route 29 bridge over the formerly abandoned Perkiomen railroad tracks.
Eliminating through-girder beams at the edge of the bridge travel lanes are anticipated to help alleviate crashes and improve safety in the corridor.
Other features of the $3.2 million project, planned as part of the bridge reconstruction, include:
- Constructing sidewalks along both sides of the roadway to improve pedestrian access;
- Re-aligning the bridge’s vertical profile to improve sight distance and reduce rear-end type crashes; and
- Installing upgraded signage, guide rails, and pavement markings.
Drivers are being asked to budget extra time through the work area. PennDOT said backups and delays may occur. All scheduled activities depend on acceptable weather.
