In this edition of local business news, The Giant Company distributes grant money locally to plant native trees. Also, a Boyertown Area Multi-Service employee is deemed by publishers of Marquis Who’s Who as a top executive.

Giant Awards Grants for Native Tree Planting Locally

CARLISLE PA – The Giant Company has presented grants valued at more than $119,000 to 37 Pennsylvania tax-exempt organizations for native tree planting projects, it reports. Among them are eight winners in Montgomery, Berks, and Chester counties.

The money is being distributed by Giant, known for its food stores, in a fifth-year partnership with the non-profit Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful. The grants are part of the company’s 2025 “Healing The Planet” program.

Winning projects were required to be shovel-ready, with any needed permits already secured. Preference was given to applicants that aim to plant the highest number of trees, it notes.

Local recipients identified by Giant are:

  • In Montgomery County, Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy in Schwenksville; Founding Forward in Valley Forge; Abington Township Public Library in Abington, and St. Thomas Episcopl Church in Whitemarsh;
  • In Berks County, Hawk Mountain Sanctuary Association in Kempton; and
  • In Chester County, Honey Brook Community Library Inc. in Honey Brook; Jenkins Arboretum & Gardens in Devon; and Marsh Creek State Park in Downingtown.

“This year’s Healing the Planet grant recipients are making a difference in their own local communities,” according to Courtney Hopcraft, Giant’s manager of community relations and charitable giving. The recipients have pledged to plant more than 4,000 new trees throughout the Commonwealth, she adds.

Since 2021, the Healing the Planet program has awarded more than $1.3 million to 178 recipients. Favored projects are those that connect communities with green spaces, protect and improve local waterways and water resources; prevent, reduce, and recover food waste; and support native tree planting and habitat restoration.
