In this edition of local business news, the public was invited Saturday (July 12, 2025) to an event at the soon-to-arrive Worthwhile Thrift store in Horsham PA. Also, Rite Aid pharmacies on Friday (Jan. 11) announced a new list of store closings in Pennsylvania.
Activities Welcome Worthwhile Thrift Store
HORSHAM PA – Adults and children alike turned out Saturday (July 12, 2025) to celebrate the soon-to-come arrival of a new Worthwhile Thrift store at 200 Blair Mill Rd. The non-profit organization, which also operates stores in Collegeville and Plumsteadville PA, invited the public to its “free family-fun outdoor event” in Horsham.

A notice in the front window of the thrift store’s future home made it clear the location isn’t yet ready to open. Workers could be seen inside the store, and lights there were on but its doors were locked.
Outside, however, were several signs that directed visitors to the rear of the building. That’s where Worthwhile representatives were stationed to welcome newcomers to its “Horsham In Bloom” event. They were directed to available activities like face-painting, crafts and games, an ice cream truck, and other treats.
Additionally the Worthwhile staff encouraged adults to browse a pop-up shop beneath a shady awning. They sought volunteers to help with the organization’s efforts, and solicited donations of clothing and other goods to be re-sold.
Partnered with the Ten Thousand Flowers Project
Prominent among the activities was a mural wall on which was drawn a series of flowers in bloom, but which needed color applied by willing painters. Plenty of people picked up brushes and cups filled with bright paints, and dived into the task. The mural was accomplished in a partnership between Worthwhile and the Ten Thousand Flowers Project.
Those interested in donating salable materials to Worthwhile Thrift should review its online lists of items and that are, or are not, acceptable.
Worthwhile, which also is headquartered in Collegeville, “exists to reach and serve individuals affected by human trafficking because we believe that everyone is worthwhile,” according to its website’s mission statement.

A total of 18 stores appear on the Friday bankruptcy list, according to a Penn Live-Patriot News story written by reporter Daniel Urie. They were not among nearly 1,200 stores Rite Aid earlier said would be shuttered. The five added closings in Pennsylvania are located in Doylestown, Coatesville (2), White Haven, and Ambler.
Locally, the list of stores earlier announced to close includes those in Pottstown, Douglassville, Royersford, Audubon, Norristown, West Chester (2), and Reading (3), Penn-Live reports.
