POTTSTOWN PA – AMC Theatres, which operates a 12-screen movie complex in Stowe and one of 10 screens in Reading, is cutting the cost of its movie tickets by half on Wednesdays. The discount takes effect July 9, it says in a media release.
Its parent company, AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc., on Monday (May 12, 2025) said it is introducing the “major pricing initiative” as a way to “make movie-going more affordable.” Its offer, to reduce normal adult ticket prices by 50% all day long on Wednesdays, including evening shows.
To claim the weekly discount, guests must be members of its free AMC Stubs Club. The club already boasts a membership of 36 million theater-goers, according to the company.
The Wednesday discount applies only to the base ticket price at all U.S. locations, it adds. Additional charges will continue to be applied for premium formats such as IMAX® at AMC, Dolby Cinema® at AMC, PRIME at AMC®, and RealD® 3D. “Certain movies and holiday time periods” also may be excluded from the 50%-Off Wednesdays program, the company adds.
A Nod to AMC’s Tuesday Success
Significant discounts at AMC Theatres on Tuesdays, which also were available to its Stubs Club participants, still continue. In fact, AMC’s success with its Tuesday discounts was the catalyst for the new Wednesday program, company Chairman and CEO Adam Aron observes.
“The introduction of discount Tuesdays several years ago has turned Tuesday into one of the best attended days of the week, in part because there is a segment of the movie-going audience who looks first for a great value,” Aron notes. “With the introduction by AMC of 50% off Wednesdays, we’re looking to turn Wednesday into a similarly strong-attendance day for movie-goers.”
Aron points, too, to more good news. “Realistically, we could not afford to have made this change to our ticket pricing strategy until the box office showed true signs of sustained recovery,” he says. “But in April and now in May, the box office has been booming. The remainder of 2025 appears poised to continue that upward box-office trend.”
Becoming A Stubs Member
AMC Stubs membership allows for the earning of points redeemable for discounts at AMC theaters, and offers additional perks year-round. They include the new half-price tickets on Wednesdays, free birthday rewards, and access to exclusive offers and promotions.
Guests who are not currently AMC Stubs members can sign up at no charge using the AMC mobile app, its website, or in person at their local AMC Theatre.
AMC claims it is the largest movie exhibition company in the United States, the largest in Europe, and the largest throughout the world. It operates about 900 theaters and 10,000 screens across the globe. Many of its properties are equipped with power-recliner seats, offer premium large format experiences, and deliver enhanced food and beverage choices.
