NAZARETH PA – The newest musical instrument from Nazareth-based Martin Guitar seems certain to appeal to Mother Nature’s ears.
C. F. Martin & Co., which for nearly 200 years has made handcrafted acoustic guitars used by some of the world’s best-known performing artists, on Tuesday (April 22, 2025) released its new D Biosphere III guitar. It is intended as a tribute to Earth Day 2025, and what the company says is its deepening “commitment to environmental responsibility.”
The “D Biosphere III” guitar is made entirely of wood certified as sustainable by the Forest Stewardship Council. It features a certified Sitka spruce top, sapele back and sides, European flamed maple binding, and sapele dot inlays on the ebony fingerboard.
Its face bears an image by artist Robert Goetzl of a polar bear mother and cub, resting on Arctic sea ice beneath a golden sky.
Martin is working with Polar Bears International to help raise awareness and support for Arctic conservation, protecting polar bear habitats, and advancing climate research. The company also contributes to reforestation efforts in Pennsylvania and Central America. It has annually debuted Earth Day guitars for several years.
Factory tours of the guitar-maker’s operations are available by advance online registration Mondays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nazareth is located 47 miles northeast of Pottstown.
