POTTSTOWN PA – “Barefoot In The Park,” the classic Neil Simon comedy about the married life of a charming but mismatched couple, continues this weekend at Steel River Playhouse in Pottstown. It’s enjoyable, and a great way to celebrate the 60-to-70-degree temperatures experienced locally this week.
Steel River, at 245 E. High St., will offer Friday and Saturday night (March 14-15) presentations, at 7 p.m.; a relaxed performance matinée Saturday at 2 p.m.; and a Sunday (March 16) matinée, also at 2 p.m. Other performances are scheduled for March 21-23 (Friday through Sunday).
Here’s the story-line audiences have laughed through worldwide:
“Paul and Corie Bratter are newlyweds in every sense of the word. He’s a straight-as-an-arrow lawyer. She’s a free spirit always looking for the latest kick. Their new apartment is her most recent find: too expensive, with bad plumbing, and in need of a paint job.”
“After a six-day honeymoon, they get a surprise visit from Corie’s loopy mother and decide to play matchmaker during a dinner with their neighbor-in-the-attic, Velasco. Everything that can go wrong does. Paul just doesn’t understand Corie, as she sees it. He’s too staid, too boring, and she just wants him to be a little more spontaneous. Running “barefoot in the park” would be a start …”
Sparks fly as the couple transforms “a cozy New York City apartment into a playground of comedic chaos … While primarily a humorous look at marriage, (“Barefoot In The Park”) subtly addresses the pressures to conform to traditional marital roles, emphasizing the importance of individuality and mutual understanding.”
“Neil Simon’s genius takes center stage, delivering a timeless narrative that resonates with audiences of all ages.”
