RootsTech 2025 Focuses on Genealogy, Ancestry Research

RootsTech 2025 Focuses on Genealogy, Ancestry Research

March 4, 2025

POTTSTOWN PA – Individuals interested in researching ancestries and family histories may benefit from a free online conference Thursday through Saturday (March 6-8) called RootsTech 2025, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Pottstown suggests.

RootsTech is an annual conference, held both online and in person in Salt Lake City UT, intended to assist those who want to connect “with their roots, or families, past and present,” the church reports. The program, which began in 2011, is supported by the non-profit Genealogical Society of Utah, also known as FamilySearch.

The conference consists of classes and workshops designed to aid those engaged in family history work. They may help participants develop new skills and discover additional tools for genealogy research. Additionally, its participants include diverse people of all backgrounds and cultures. Registration is available online.

What the Free Conference Offers

Featured during this year’s RootsTech are appearances by YouTube singer Ysabelle Cuevas, who serves as the keynote speaker, and Ndaba Mandela, grandson of former South Africa President Nelson Mandela.

The online conference full schedule presents:

  • A single introductory session on Wednesday (March 5) at 6 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST);
  • Sixty-nine sessions of your choosing on Thursday (March 6), beginning at 6:30 a.m. EST and ending after 11 p.m. EST;
  • Seventy-one sessions of your choosing on Friday (March 7), starting at 12:30 a.m. EST and ending after 11 p.m. EST; and
  • Forty-five sessions of your choosing on Saturday (March 8), set to begin at 12:30 a.m. EST and ending after 8 p.m. EST.

Don’t be discouraged by the volume of sessions, the online site indicates. They can be searched by both researcher skill levels (four, from beginner to professional) and by topic. Those planning to attend also can build personalized schedules that show and alerts them to only sessions they select.

Unable to attend the conference during its scheduled times? No problem, the church explains. All sessions are being recorded for later online demand.
