POTTSTOWN PA – Attend at your own risk if you visit the Haunted Woods at Althouse Arboretum, 1794 Gilbertsville Rd., on Thursday and Friday (Oct. 17-18, 2024) from 7-9 p.m. Once there, expect to meet spooky characters hiding among its trees.
Howls, screams, scares, and things that jump out of the forest are sure to be encountered on both nights, arboretum volunteers report. Visitors can arrive and leave anytime during operating hours.
Tickets cost $10 per person, and are available at the arboretum entrance. No advance registration is required.
Walking in the woods at night can be scary enough. But parents, be forewarned. The arboretum staff has planned an extra-frightening event it says “will make your heart race.” It most definitely is NOT suitable for young children.
If visitors come out of the forest … um, or when they come out of the forest … they’ll find food, a marshmallow roast, and a scary movie to watch. Each night will be filled with “fun and horror,” organizers say.
Maybe A Relaxing Night Hike Instead?
Looking for a less stressful event? Try the arboretum’s Family Night Hikes on Oct. 25-26 (Friday and Saturday) from 6-8 p.m. each night. The hikes are specifically created for young children as a non-scary alternative to traditional Halloween activities, according to its website.
Enjoy a short hike down candle-lit trails, which lead to different imaginary worlds in Adventureland. After the walk, enjoy games, prizes, crafts, snacks and an outdoor movie. Try roasting marshmallows at its campfire ring, too.
Tickets cost $10 per child, and are available at the arboretum entrance. Accompanying adults are admitted free.
Next Month, Attend the Gala Too
Enjoy an evening out Nov. 2 (Saturday) from 5-8 p.m., with live jazz music, wine, and food from Gracie’s 21st Century Café in Pine Forge. All will be available during a fund-raising gala for the arboretum’s non-profit parent, GreenAllies, at the Carousel at Pottstown, 30 W. King St.
Tickets cost $65 per person, and are available for purchase online or by calling GreenAllies at 267-371-2288. The organization also encourages public support by memberships or donations.
