BOYERTOWN PA – What promises to be an Oktoberfest that’s “bigger and better than ever,” according to Building a Better Boyertown, will be held this weekend in the borough.
The annual Oktoberfest celebration is sponsored by the downtown promotional organization. It’s scheduled for Friday (Sept. 13, 2024) from 6-10 p.m., and Saturday (Sept. 14) from 1-10 p.m. in Boyertown’s town center parking lot. The anticipated event is expected to offer “a taste of Bavaria right here in Boyertown,” the group adds.
As in past years, several Oktoberfest activities are free to attend. In part that’s because Oktoberfest is “more than just a festival,” the organization contends. It also represents “a celebration of community, tradition, and fun.”
The event intends to showcase “heritage and culture, bringing together residents and visitors for a day of joy, camaraderie, and shared experiences.”
What’s to see, hear, and do
Those who attend can look forward “to an authentic experience featuring traditional German music, dancing, shopping, and entertainment,” Building A Better Boyertown says. “Whether you’re a fan of delicious food, craft beers, or just looking to enjoy a festive atmosphere with family and friends, there’s something for everyone.”
Its beer tent will feature a variety of traditional German beers, as well as locally brewed beers and ciders. Admission to the beer tent requires a cover charge and drink tickets each night. A ceremonial keg-tapping, conducted by borough Mayor Lori Carnes, is planned for Saturday afternoon.
Food and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase from a variety of trucks and vendors.
On tap for entertainment are:
- Yodeling Dave Kline and his Mountain Folk Oktoberfest Band, scheduled Friday “to fill the air with traditional German music;”
- The Auerhahn Schuhplatter Verein German Dancers; GTV Edelweiss Dancers from Liederkranz; the Boyertown Alumni Band; the Happy Dutchman German Band, and the 5th Street Remnants, all scheduled to perform throughout Saturday afternoon and evening;
- A variety of children’s activities, also Saturday, some of which may be ticketed; and
- Talented vendors and artisans that promoters report will “leave you in awe.”
Building a Better Boyertown publicly thanks the Gabelsville Athletic Association, Friendship Hook and Ladder Social Club, and the Colebrookdale Railroad for their partnerships in this year’s observance.
