ROYERSFORD PA – Discover the history of bicycles – from hobby horses, to high-wheelers, to safety bicycles – during a free Monday program in Royersford. It starts at 7 p.m. in the museum of the Spring-Ford Area Historical Society, 526 Main St.
Dan Olsen of the Boyertown Museum of Historic Vehicles will talk about innovations in cycling technology, and some of the famous names behind bicycle development. He will also describe how early automobile companies evolved from their origins as bicycle manufacturers.
Olsen additionally will look at how the bicycle affected society, from improving roads and infrastructure to its impact on the women’s movement. Participants also will hear more about the Boyertown museum, which the most recent historical society newsletter called “a gem in our area.”
Anyone who rides a bicycle to the program will receive a historical society magnet, free! Those who attend are encouraged to bring lawn chairs for personal seating. Vehicular parking is available in the nearby lot of Calhoun Jewelers.
The program’s free, but registration requested
There’s no charge to attend, but advance registration is requested and available online. Registration also ensures that activity packets are available for all registered children in kindergarten through sixth grade. And tell a friend, won’t you?, about the program, the society asks. This society program is co-sponsored by Oehlert Bros. Inc., which the organization publicly thanked and called “one of (its) long-time business members.”
