Looking for good music, in a variety of styles, presented in some of the most well-kept and scenic parks within southeastern Pennsylvania? You won’t need to look farther than this year’s municipal summer concerts. They’re being presented by counties, boroughs, and townships across the area.
Travels With The Post has updated its list (as of Sunday, June 30, 2024) of local concerts and performers. Most are free to attend, although some may be limited to residents of the host municipality.
Concerts have been announced in Collegeville, Green Lane, Limerick, Lower Frederick, Lower Pottsgrove, Schwenksville, Upper Providence, and Upper Salford.
July 7 in Lower Pottsgrove, ‘The Jump Start Music Duo‘
LOWER POTTSGROVE PA – Concerts that continue through Aug. 24 have been scheduled by Lower Pottsgrove Township, it announced on Facebook.
All are held Sundays and begin at 6 p.m. at its band shell in Sanatoga Park, 223 S. Sanatoga Rd. For each concert, rain dates have been set aside for the next day, Monday, at 7 p.m.
Concert updates will be made available on Facebook. The events are sponsored by J.P. Mascaro & Sons.
Scheduled are:
- July 7, Jump Start Music Duo (pop and rock);
- July 14, Flamin’ Dick & The Hot Rods (’50s and ’60s rock-and-roll);
- July 21, Barefoot Bobby and the Breakers (pop, country, and rock);
- July 28, Stephanie Grace (country and pop); and
- Aug. 4, the Pottsgrove Community Band (marches, show tunes, classics).
Listeners are encouraged to bring a chair or blanket on which to sit. If you’re so inclined, bring a picnic meal too. Dancing occurs regularly, as the mood strikes, on the open surface in front of the band.
July 11 in Upper Salford, ‘The Mighty Manatees‘
UPPER SALFORD PA – Upper Salford Township Park on Salford Park Drive is the site of that municipality’s summer concerts. They are scheduled Thursdays from 7-8:30 p.m., the township website reported.
On the calendar now are:
- July 11, The Mighty Manatees (reggae rock); and
- Aug. 1, All Worn Out (classic rock).
There’s good news for performers, too. The township website said it is willing to talk with acts about its future concert needs. If interested, send an e-mail to township’s concert scheduler John “Jack” Stacy at jstacy@comcast.net.
The park is for public enjoyment, so the township reminds visitors to follow its online park rules and regulations.
July 11 in Collegeville, ‘Bigg Romeo’
COLLEGEVILLE PA – The third time, hopefully, will be a charm in Collegeville.
The borough has run into its share of concert difficulties this year. It scheduled a performance by Electric Karma in early June. Soggy ground at the borough’s Community Park, located on Park Avenue between Third and Fourth Avenues, caused its cancellation.
Then it planned for a gig by popular band Bigg Romeo. The first attempt, in May, was postponed due to rain. It was re-scheduled for June, and postponed again due to poor air quality.
But Collegeville perseveres! On
- July 11, Bigg Romeo and its dance party is re-scheduled, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., at Community Park. The borough encourages visitors to bring a blanket or lawn chairs for seating, or if it suits you “just sit on the ball field bleachers.” Generally, food trucks are available with products for purchase, and the park offers a playground for the kids. Then, on
- July 26, the borough and Ursinus College will co-sponsor a second movie on the college lawn. It’s the Disney animated film “Migration,” beginning at 7 p.m. across the green expanse in front of the college on East Main Street. For the movie, parking is available behind the Collegeville Fire Company, around Corson Hall or in the lots near the facilities building.
Listeners at the Bigg Romeo show also have a chance at the concert to do good for someone else. Donations of non-perishable items will be accepted at the park for distribution by the Daily Bread Community Food Pantry.
On the pantry’s list of most needed items are laundry and dish soap, deodorants, baby wash and ointment, razors and shaving creams for men and women, paper towels and tissues, cleaning products, juice, soups, canned meats, Hamburger Helper, noodle and rice kits, oatmeal and cereal, baked beans, and peas.
July 12 in Green Lane, ‘The Mystic Rituals‘
GREEN LANE PA – The Montgomery County government tradition of bringing summer musical entertainment to the regularly busy Green Lane Park at its amphitheater, 2298 Green Lane Rd., continues this year.
Three performances remain through Aug. 18 from 6-8 p.m. All performances are free, suitable for all ages, and open to the public, it added.
Still in its line-up are:
- July 12, The Mystic Rituals (’60s-to-’80s classic rock); and
- July 21, Double Trouble (Elvis tribute);
- Aug. 18, Here’s Elton (Elton John tribute).
For more information, call the Green Lane park office or its supervisor, Joshua Aniskevich, at 215-234-4528; or send an e-mail to greenlanepark@montcopa.org. Parking for the amphitheater is located at 2298 Green Lane Rd. The park is open from dawn to dusk.
July 17 in Upper Providence, ‘Swiftie and the Midnights’
COLLEGEVILLE PA – Calling all Swifties!
“Swiftie & the Midnights” is scheduled to perform July 17 (Wednesday) from 6-8 p.m. on the stage at Upper Providence Township’s Anderson Farm Park, 499 Hopwood Rd. “We are super excited to have them,” the township noted, and added this “will be the second time they are performing at Anderson.”
Concert-goers must bring a chair or blanket to sit on while listening to the music. Kona Ice of King of Prussia sell treats during the concert too.
July 17 in Schwenksville, ‘Dibbs and the Detonators’
SCHWENKSVILLE PA – Schwenksville launched the 2024 edition of its annual “Music in the Meadow” concert series in June. The borough describes it as “an action packed summer” that, it warns, will “rock your socks off.”
All shows are in its Meadow Park, 300 Main St., comfortably located between the Perkiomen Trail and Perkiomen Creek and ensuring “plenty of open air space.” Visitors must bring a chair or blanket to sit on.
Scheduled are:
- July 17, Dibbs and the Detonators (rockabilly), from 6:30-8:30 p.m.; and
- Aug. 21, Little Sister (rock, pop, and dance), from 6-8 p.m.
The concerts are free, and family- and pet-friendly, it said. Food is available for purchase, too, thanks to Boy Scouts of America Troop 105 of Schwenksville. Bring your appetite, the borough suggests.
Sponsoring the concerts are a lengthy list of local businesses and organizations including DJM Design CAD & Coordination Services Inc., Walter Douglass Tax Service LLC, The Goddard School, Rep. Matt Bradford, Univest Financial, Sanatoga Water Conditioning, Perkiomen Bicycles, Action Karate Skippack, Schwenksville Dental Care, Artio Traffic Protection LLC, Skippack Sweet Spot, Behmerwald Nursery, Schwenksville Tax Collector Thomas Laconis, Gilmore & Associates, Heidelberg United Church of Christ, The Victory Bank, Schwenksville Investment Properties LLC, Moccia’s Train Stop, Spring Mountain Adventures, Engage Art Studio, and Wawa.
July 25 in Limerick, ‘Dueling Pianos’
LIMERICK PA – Two shows remain in Limerick Township‘s series of summer concerts in Limerick Community Park, 180 Swamp Pike. All start at 7 p.m. on specified dates, weather permitting.
Scheduled are:
- July 25, Dueling Pianos (keyboards and banter); and
- Aug. 15, Bar None Band (popular songs over genres and decades).
July 25 in Lower Frederick, ‘Barefoot Bobby and The Breakers’
LOWER FREDERICK PA – Two free and open-to-the-public musical performances represent Lower Frederick Township’s summer concert series. All events will be held on Thursdays in Cuddy Park, Colonial Drive, Perkiomenville, starting at 7 p.m.
Taking the stage are:
- July 25, Barefoot Bobby and the Breakers (pop, country, and rock), with an Aug. 1 rain date; and,
- Aug. 22, Slim and the Perkolators (blues), with a Aug. 29 rain date.
Earlier concerts have proven to be relaxing and laid-back. Township residents, friends, and occasional visitors are invited to bring lawn chairs, picnic dinners, leashed and well-behaved pets, and a frisbee or ball to create a night-time adventure for themselves, the Lower Frederick Parks and Recreation Board said.
