POTTSTOWN PA – A recent donation of $5,445 to the Montgomery County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is the result of partnership between a Pottstown area resident and the Colebrookdale Railroad in Boyertown.
Lily Alderfer was looking for a partner to assist with her confirmation project at the First Presbyterian Church of Pottstown, 750 N. Evans St. She learned the non-profit railroad was as “passionate about” animal welfare as she was, Colebrookdale Marketing Director Melissa Tinney reported in an e-mail.
Together they determined Lily could fulfill the goals of her project, and the railroad could extend its help, by designating proceeds from its Easter train rides to the SPCA. Those were combined with additional donations Lily collected from a variety of sources.
The total was presented (at top) to SPCA Education and Community Outreach Coordinator Ali Swiatkowski for use in the organization’s operations. Also in attendance were Lily, several of her family members, and board members and employees of the railroad.
This initial effort may not be the last, Tinney noted. “We hope to partner with the SPCA again in the future,” she said.
