POTTSTOWN PA – Final performances of “The Prom,” a heart-warming story of inclusion and acceptance, are scheduled for Friday (June 7, 2024) at 7 p.m., Saturday (June 8) at 2 and 7 p.m., and Sunday (June 9) at 2 p.m. at Steel River Playhouse, 245 E. High St.
Tickets are available now online. The production closes out the non-profit theater’s 2023-2024 season.
“The Prom” is “an important story, because at its root it is a matter of civil rights. It’s a reminder that every person has the right to celebrate and love who they love out loud,” director David Williams notes. It also offers hilarity, catchy music, and dazzling dance numbers.
The story: “Four eccentric Broadway stars are in desperate need of a new stage. When they hear trouble is brewing around a small-town prom, they know that it’s time to put a spotlight on the issue … and themselves.”
“The town’s parents want to keep the high school dance on the straight and narrow, but when one student just wants to bring her girlfriend to prom, the entire town has a date with destiny. On a mission to transform lives, Broadway’s brassiest join forces with the courageous girl and the town’s citizens. The result is love that brings them all together.”
The show’s book is by Bob Martin and Chad Beugelin, with lyrics by Beugelin, and music by Matthew Sklar. Williams directs, with music direction by Jake Leonowitz and choreography by Amanda Morrell.
The running time for the two-act show is about 2 hours and 30 minutes with one intermission. Tickets cost $29 for adults, $24 for those age 65 and older, and $17 for students. Choose seats and buy tickets online, or call the Box Office at 610-970-1199.
