UPPER POTTSGROVE PA – Celebrate the arrival of spring Saturday (April 20, 2024) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., during the Spring Fest event scheduled at Althouse Arboretum, 1794 Gilbertsville Rd.
Student and adult leaders at the arboretum regretfully canceled last month’s scheduled, and highly popular, Forest Egg Hunt due to inclement weather. Rather than do without that fun, they’ve created a new event – the Spring Fest – that offers many of the same family-oriented activities.
The event includes a woodland egg scavenger hunt, carnival games, and crafts. A bingo game is planned, and offers prizes to winners. Visitors also can create their own lunch by making a pizza in the arboretum’s wood-fired pizza oven.
The fest is free to attend, too, although pay-what-you-choose donations will be happily accepted, and some activities require a fee. And, just in case, a rain date of Sunday (April 21) has been scheduled in case Mother Nature strikes twice.
Plan for some planting
If you like to plan ahead for your activities, the arboretum team also hopes you’ll set aside time to help students get started on planting at the nearby Althouse community farm.
Its members are scheduled to put veggies into the ground May 4 (2024; Saturday) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and volunteer assistance is welcome and appreciated even if only for an hour or two. About 800 plants need to be placed in the farm’s rows. Once grown and harvested, arboretum leaders say, the food is distributed to families in need throughout the region.
