POTTSTOWN PA – If you’re a high school student who can sing, dance, play an instrument, crack jokes, or in any other way keep an audience entertained and smiling, the Pottstown CARES Club wants your talent. It’s awarding prizes for it, too, but you’ve got to hurry to get in on the fun.
The club, which consists of civic-minded students from Pottstown High School and The Hill School, is planning a “Town’s Got Talent” show later this month to raise funds for Operation 143. The deadline to register talented performers for the show is fast-approaching: it’s Thursday (March 7). Students who would like to be in it to win it can register themselves online or by using a QR code (at right).
Operation 143 is Pottstown-based non-profit that helps low-income families address food insecurity; it provides children across six local school districts with bags of food for weekend meals.
Performer and ticket information
Prospective performers should know that:
- Registration is open to students from Pottstown High School, Pottsgrove High School, The Hill School, and Owen J. Roberts High School;
- Performances should be suitable for all ages;
- A panel of faculty judges from The Hill, Pottstown, OJR, and Pottsgrove high schools will decide the winners, based on specific criteria; and
- Visa Gift Cards will be awarded in the amounts of $200 to the first-place winner, $100 for second place, and $50 for third.
The show is scheduled for March 22 (Friday) from 6:30-9:30 p.m. at Pottstown High School, 750 N. Washington St. Advance sale tickets are available now online, and also at the door on show night. General admission costs $5 for students and $10 for adults. Pizza and baked goods also will be sold at the show, again with proceeds benefiting Operation 143.
The “CARES” in Pottstown CARES stands for Community, Awareness, Responsibility, Empowerment, and Sustainability. Assembled in 2016, its members have continued to collaborate on a variety of projects to make the borough and its surroundings a brighter, happier, and unified place to live.
