UPPER POTTSGROVE PA – Shed the silver tinsel. Remove the ornaments. Pack up the light strings. There’s a lot effort expended to take a Christmas tree down after the holiday ends. Good thing getting rid of the tree itself will be a trouble-free process again in 2024, thanks to student volunteers at Althouse Arboretum.
The arboretum’s most recent newsletter said they’ll be on hand Saturday and Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days, to accept your tree at its parking lot, 1794 Gilbertsville Rd. Upper Pottsgrove Township workers have agreed to later chip and recycle the trees into bedding material for use on the arboretum’s several trails.
So stuff that bare tree into your car’s trunk, the back of your SUV, or the bed of your pick-up truck – or tie it to the roof of any vehicle that moves – and move it down to the arboretum. If you’re so inclined, the crew there will gratefully accept a cash donation, the newsletter added.
Don’t want to make the trip from home to the arboretum and back? That’s OK. For a minimum donation of $10, the arboretum can pick the tree up. You’ll need to make advance reservations, though, by no later than Thursday (Jan. 4) using an online Google Form. Its staff will assign pick-up days and times.
