DOWNINGTOWN PA – This may be a case of having your cake and drinking it too.
Chester County-based Victory Brewing Company has created “a sweet ale” that features “notes of pound cake and cinnamon,” flavors it borrowed from Philadelphia’s iconic Tastykake Baking Company under a new partnership. Tastykake’s “Koffee Kake Cupkake” will power the taste of Victory’s “Koffee Kake Ale,” due to be available later this month through March 2024.
Offered only as a seasonal release, Koffee Kake Ale will be sold on draft and in 6-pack 12-ounce bottles. The product is due to ship this month from the Downingtown PA brewery to its distribution network, it said Thursday (Dec. 14, 2023).
That will be followed Dec. 22 (Friday) by the beer’s sale at Victory Brewing’s Pennsylvania taprooms in Downingtown, Philadelphia, Parkesburg, and Kennett Square. Victory and Tastykake will mark the occasion with a first taste, giveaways, and pairings at each location from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The first 10 patrons at each taproom “will score special and limited co-branded prize packs,” they added.
Partnerships like the one between Victory and Tastykake are becoming increasingly common, according to the brewing company’s brand manager, Kelly Irvine. “Brand crossovers are on the rise in craft, for the unique and special value they bring to drinkers,” she said. Both companies benefit by connecting with a “loyal fanbase,” Irvine noted.
It also was important “to select a partner whose identity, values and flavor profiles would align with ours,” she added.
Tastykake Brand Manager Ashley Hornsby agreed, reporting its collaboration with Victory resulted in “a unique and tasty mash-up.” She claimed Koffee Kake Ale “brings the best of these two iconic brands together in a flavorful way for our passionate fans.”
