Zap, Pow, Bang! Sherma-Con Digs Into Gamer Action

December 21, 2023

STROUDSBURG PA – Those who are into anything from board games to extended play video shoot-em-ups on a digital screen are likely be hooked by Sherma-Con. Organizers call it one-day “an all-inclusive gamer’s paradise” that’s scheduled for Jan. 27 (2024; Saturday) from 2-10 p.m. in Stroudsburg.

The program, held in the Sherman Theater at 524 Main St., runs the gamut from tabletop to digital challenges. It includes a variety of board games available to check out and learn, as well as free-play video game consoles. The conference also features comic and anime artists, and a cosplay contest judged by accomplished cosplayers.

Sherma-Con is suitable for all ages, organizers said, however alcoholic beverages will be available to purchase only by those age 21 or older with valid identification. Food, snacks, and non-alcoholic beverages also will offered by vendors.

Tickets for the event are now available online. They also can be ordered by calling its box office at 570-420-2808, or by sending an e-mail to ticketsales@shermantheater.com. The theater is a 73-mile drive from Pottstown on PA Routes 100 and 33.

Four levels for admission are listed:

  • Level 1 youth admission is specifically for patrons age 12 and younger, and costs $15. Buyers must call the box office to obtain their ticket. It comes with a souvenir lanyard;
  • Level 1 adult admission is specifically for patrons ages 13 and older, costs $25, can be bought online, and also comes with a souvenir lanyard;
  • Level 2 adult admission costs $50, provides a Level 2 lanyard as well as access to the conference VIP area with private bathrooms, lounge area, and four virtual reality rooms, a Sherma-Con 2024 t-shirt, and admission to an “After Party Rave;” and
  • Level 3 adult admission and 18 and older includes the benefits of Level 2 admission, in addition to the conference’s Dark Side Burlesque show and vendors.

The 94-year-old Sherman Theater opened Jan. 7, 1929, with a performance by Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy. During later decades, the theater said it has become a central point of the community that presents high-in-demand artists, assists in community betterment of the community, and makes itself publicly accessible.
