PENNSBURG PA – Soft and chewy, crispy and crunchy, or nutty and fruity? No matter how you like them, Christmas cookies generally make everyone’s list of high-in-demand holiday foods. But do you know the story behind the start of the cookie tradition?
Learn more about it during the Brown Bag Lecture on Dec. 13 (2023; Wednesday) at noon in the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center, 105 Seminary St. Enjoy the lunch you bring, while a member of the Goschenhoppen Historians offers a presentation titled “The History of Christmas Cookies.”
Those who attend are asked to bring a favorite potluck dish of their choice to share with others, as well as a copy of the recipe. Unsure what to provide as your food contribution? Feel free to bring something like crackers and cheese, or ring bologna. Paper plates and silverware, coffee, and tea will be provided.
If you like to cook and have a copy of Schwenkfelder Cookbook (sold in the center’s gift shop, by the way), try a recipe from it.
Advance registration for the program is requested. Send an e-mail to info@schwenkfelder.org about your intent to attend, or call 215-679-3103. Due to the nature of this month’s program, no Zoom option will be available.
The Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center is the regional history museum for the Upper Perkiomen Valley. It’s open Tuesdays through Sundays, and admission to visit its exhibits or conduct research in the library is free.
