POTTSTOWN PA – Two special holiday events that feature the instrumental and vocal talents of students at The Hill School are scheduled for Friday (Dec. 8, 2023) and Sunday (Dec. 10), respectively, in the main theater of the school’s Center For The Arts, 760 Beech St. Both are free to attend and open to the public.
Hill School musicians will take the stage Friday at 7:15 p.m. to perform in its annual “Winter Holiday Instrumental Concert.” The orchestra and jazz ensemble led by Margie Neiswender, director of instrumental music and senior master teacher of the arts, will offer the audience a variety of holiday favorites. They include “We Wish You a Merry Christmas,” “A Star of Wonder,” and “Jingle Bell Rock.”
The Hill’s annual “Candlelight Service of Lessons and Carols” (at top) – a holiday service that includes scripture readings, and songs and hymns by its student choral groups – is scheduled for Sunday at 7:15 p.m. Among the performers will be its Chamber Choir and Chorus; a cappella groups the Hilltones and Hilltrebles; and the Community Choir, comprised of students, employees, alumni, parents, and siblings.
The Sunday service will be preceded by an organ prelude from 7-7:15 p.m. The time reflects a scheduling change made during Wednesday (Dec. 6), the school reported.
Involved in organizing the Sunday event are The Rev. Khristi Adams, the school’s dean of spiritual life, and Equity and Firestone endowment chaplain; The Rev. Anne Confer Martens, Warner associate chaplain; Yoon Soo Lim, Oaklawn Tuttle director of vocal music; and Bill Conrad, school organist.
The performances would normally occur in the school’s Alumni Chapel. Renovations in progress there prompted their move to the Center For The Arts, the school reported.
