Borough Turns Community Day Loss Into Halloween Gain

Borough Turns Community Day Loss Into Halloween Gain

October 10, 2023

SCHWENKSVILLE PA – Forecasts for heavy rain forced the cancellation late last month of the long-awaited Schwenksville Community Day. Volunteers on the borough Activity Committee spent months of work on the event, but refused to accept its loss as a setback, borough Manager Dan DeMeno indicates. Instead, the committee is looking to turn it into a big gain.

Resources that were allocated for the Community Day bash are instead being put to an equally good use. They will cover the costs of a free Halloween-themed party for the borough’s young residents. What Schwenksville has labeled as its “No Tricks, Just Treats Party” is scheduled for Oct. 21 (2023; Saturday) from 1-3 p.m. at the borough hall and community center, 300 Main St.

It’s envisioned as a rain-or-shine, indoor and outdoor affair, assuming Mother Nature chooses to cooperate. If not, the community center can provide shelter to what likely will be an enthusiastic crowd. Kids, who must be accompanied by an adult, are being encouraged to dress in costume.

There’s incentive to arrive early, too. The first 150 participants will receive a free pumpkin.

Pet will be welcomed as well, but only if the weather is acceptable. No pets are allowed in the community center itself. Dress accordingly, the borough suggested, if there’s a chill in the air.

Sponsors make the fun possible

The two-hour party includes pumpkin painting, crafts, cookies, candy, snacks, drinks, and Halloween music. Crafts will be provided by the Perkiomen Valley Library. Performers Kris & Holly will offer entertainment from 2-2:45 p.m. during their “Story Telling with Balloons & Magic” show. Other activities and surprises are in the works, and will be announced as confirmed.

The same sponsors whose contributions would have made Community Day a success are also behind the party. They include Raw Replenish of Schwenksville, DJM Design Cad & Coordination Services, Schwenksville Tax Collector Thomas Laconis, DJM Product Design, Perkiomen Bicycles, Spring Mountain Adventures, Robert L. Brant & Associates, Moccia’s Train Stop, Gilmore & Associates Inc., Behmerwald Nursery, Schwenksville Investment Properties LLC, Engage Art Studio, Wawa, Romero Roofing & Siding, Schwenksville Dental Care, Sanatoga Water Conditioning, Heidelberg United Church of Christ, The Goddard School of Schwenksville, Robert Slater Inc., Univest Financial, and 70th District state Rep. Matt Bradford.

For more information about the party, call borough hall at 610-287-7442, or send an e-mail to info@schwenksville-pa.org.
